Triumphs at the Caliente 250: A Day of Grit and Glory

June 2, 2025

By Vanessa, Assistant General Manager, Chicken Ranch Brothel

The Dirt Shades Caliente 250 in Caliente, Nevada, lived up to its reputation this year—scorching heat, brutal terrain, and fierce competition. And in the thick of it all was Chicken Ranch Racing’s car #1659, driven by the unstoppable John Bohls, proudly sponsored by the Chicken Ranch Brothel in Pahrump, Nevada.

As part of the legendary Southern Nevada Off-Road Enthusiasts (SNORE) series, the Caliente 250 has been a staple of off-road racing in Lincoln County for over 50 years. This year’s race was one for the books, with temperatures soaring above 102°F and the unforgiving desert pushing every team to the edge. Only 7 out of 11 vehicles in the 1600 class—known for its open-wheeled, VW-powered beasts—made it to the finish line.

Car #1659 was one of them.

John’s performance was nothing short of heroic. He tore through all four punishing laps, stopping only once for a lightning-fast fuel up and a few ice rags to cool down. Even after getting stuck and needing a pull-out, he didn’t quit. No food, no bathroom breaks, and definitely no comfort—just sheer determination and horsepower. He crossed the finish line in 6th place, a huge accomplishment considering the conditions and the brutal attrition rate.

As for me, I was suited up and ready. As the Assistant General Manager, I came prepared to jump in as co-driver if needed! Decked out in a full fire suit and helmet, I stayed on standby, kept cool with ice-cold rags and water from our amazing pit crew. But John? He powered through the entire race like a machine.

With his GPS tracker down for most of the race, we were glued to the radio, biting our nails as we listened for updates. At one point, car #1666 was hot on our heels in the points standings, threatening our second-place spot in the series. But when John roared through the final lap without hesitation, the pit area exploded in cheers. It was a moment I’ll never forget.

This race wasn’t just about finishing—it was about resilience, teamwork, and passion. It’s a true reflection of what Chicken Ranch stands for: bold, unforgettable experiences that push the limits.

We’re already gearing up for the next big showdown: The Lone Kid Pahrump 200, right in our own backyard, happening October 24–25, 2025. You better believe Car #1659 will be ready to bring the heat again—hopefully with even more fans from Pahrump cheering us on.
